Soekarno's Exile House

One of the places of exile Sukarno was in the city of Bengkulu. During his exile in Bengkulu, he was placed in a house which was originally the residence of Chinese named Tan Eng Cian. Tan Eng Cian is an entrepreneur who supplies the basic materials for the needs of Dutch colonial rule. Soekarno occupies the house of the year 1938 until the year 1942. This house is about 1.6 km from Fort Malborough.Houses are built in the early 20th century was shaped rectangles. The building was not footed and bare walls. The main entrance to the double-leafed, with a rectangular shape. Form of a rectangular window and a double-leafed. On ventilation have ornate latticework. A house with a yard large enough this has a pyramid-shaped roof. This house building area is 162 m2, with a size of 9 x 18 m
.

This whole area used to house up to 4 hectares. In addition to the main house, there are several other buildings. Over time, the Government of Bengkulu Province of existing land and then divided up to house the population and partly to the local government building.

Exile in the house are preserved heritage objects Bung Karno has historical value. These objects is a silent witness who accompanied the Proclaimers in formulating strategies for the struggle in exile. Although this house is not spelled out great, but the division of space and arrangement of these precious objects is pretty neat and orderly.

On the terrace, in addition to tables and chairs, two small cupboards, one for storing various kinds of souvenirs and another one into place Bengkulu typical food store and various other kinds of cakes. Shifted slightly to the house, visitors can find a pair of old chairs. On the right side there are three rooms and on the left side there are two bedrooms. Inside the bedroom there is a metal bed bed Bung Karno as she inhabits the house. In one of the three other rooms, located on the front, framed copy of an old bicycle, a vehicle commonly used Bung Karno to travel back then.

At least the middle of the room placed a closet-sized trailer 2 x 1.5 meters, where a collection of books on display Bung Karno. A wardrobe stores several items of clothing and a former performer at the time, such as kebaya and old umbrellas made of paper. Everything has looked worn and faded. The last room, on the back, looked empty, but in every part of the wall of framed photographs displayed large, visible pictures Bung Karno Inggit and family along with my mother and other relatives, including photos Fatmawati that when the new adults. On the back porch with a pair of houses have lounge chairs. On the right there are buildings stretching to the rear, consisting of five plots, among them a small room or bathroom, while the other serves as a storehouse and a kitchen.

However, the actual collection of the most precious relics in this house are books Bung Karno, which amounts to hundreds of fruit. Rows of thick books include various types, such as classical literature, free, data leadership of Jong Java, to the Catholic Youth Bible. Unfortunately, the books of Dutch-speaking majority had been in fragile condition and age were destroyed inedible. If diprosentasikan, about 60 percent of all books available in the House of Exile, Bung Karno was badly damaged. Book covers most of the holes or destroyed. Color book was faded and brittle. No thermostat or means durability book keeper, like a museum.

Besides the book collection of Bung Karno, dozens of uniform Monte Carlo Tonil groups are also stored in this house. Unfortunately, in these storage cabinets are also not equipped with temperature control and light to prevent damage from weathering and other factors.
